I just finished Marie, Dancing, by Carolyn Meyer. almost, not quite but almost a tear jerker. Anyone heard of the French painter Degas? Well, he did a wax statuette called Petite danseuse de quatorze ans, or Little Dancer aged fourteen. This story is told from the point of view of the model, Marie van Goethem. It is bynot means a happy story, but it is beautiful, amazing, great, brilliant...

I'm reading An Actor Prepares by Constantin Stanislavski; Racism, Ethnicity and the Media by Jakubowicz et al and Rio Saki and Other Falling Debris by Shaun Charles.
Rio Saki's an amazing play actually. Not so sure about Charles himself though. _________________ I see what you mean. |

Yeah i thought it was great. Imagine having extended senses like that I liked the characters although i found Seranity's character very unsettling. Overall i think it was a great story. It was a good mixture and i would read it again. _________________ Every end has a new beginning. |

yeah, Serenity was kinda disturbing but i have a younger sis who is going through that moody stage so i could relate
reading it was a reminder to me to tune in to peoples body language and subtext more cos we seldom say what we mean. And she became so sensitive to little things like that... amazing. _________________ Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt.

I am nearly finished reading Non-Violent communication: a language of life, by marshall B Rosenberg. Brilliant! I have done lotsa communication type stuff in the past with lotsa reflective listening etc but this is another step on...he does heaps of peace and reconciliation work around the world and the stories he gives for examples are amazing in themselves, as he works in war zones and prisons and poverty stricken countries.
This arvo I read the chapter on anger and he writes and explains so well how we do anger and why and why it doesnt work and how we can choose to sort out issues with love and compassion and understanding for everyone.
Here is the summary:
"Blaming and punishing others are superficial expressions of anger. If we wish to fully express anger, the first step is to divorce the other person from any responsibility for our anger. Instead we shine the light of consciousness on our own feelings and needs. By expressing our needs, we are far more likely to get them met than by our judging, blaming, or punishing others.
The 4 steps to expressing anger are: (1) stop and breathe: (2) identify our judgmental thoughts, (3) connect with our needs, and (4) express our feelings and unmet needs. Sometimes between steps 3 and 4 we may choose to empathize with the other person so that he or she will be better able to hear us when we express ourselves in step 4."
Anyway Richard and I are doing a workshop this weekend on compassionate communication , which is its other name, so we will be very good at it by next camp!
I totally recommend this book and process. Love from GJ _________________ "You live in a limitless world: you can expand beyond anything you know." -Orin |
